Explanation of IP numbers for degrees of protection

a) Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign bodies. (the first number)

b) Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against harmful ingress of water (the second number)

Non-protected

No special protection

Protected against solid

objects ≥ 50mm

A large surface of the body, such as a hand (but no protection against deliberate access).

Solid objects with diameter ≥ 50mm.

Protected against solid

objects ≥ 12mm

Fingers or similar objects with length ≤ 80mm. Solid objects with diameter ≥ 12mm.

Protected against solid

objects ≥ 2,5mm

Tools, wires,… of diameter or thickness ≥ 2,5mm. Solid objects with diameter ≥ 2,5mm.

Protected against solid

objects ≥ 1mm

Wires or strips of thickness ≥ 1mm. Solid objects of diameter ≥ 1mm.

5 Dust-protected

Ingress of dust is not totally prevented, but dust doesn't enter in sufficient quantity to

interfere with satisfactory operation of the equipment.

Dripping water (vertically falling drops) shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is

tilted at any angle up to 15° from its normal position.

Water falling as a spray at an angle up to 60° from the vertical shall have no harmful effect.

splashing water

Water splashed against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect.

Protected against

water jets

Water projected by a nozzle against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful

effect.

powerful water jets

Water from heavy seas or water projected in powerful jets from any direction shall not

enter the enclosure in harmful quantities.

effects of immersion

(less than 1m)

Ingress of water in a harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is

immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (max 30 minutes

immersion at 1m depth)

more)

The equipment is suitable for continuous submersion in water under conditions which are

specified.

Explanation of EES label

A: item number

B: Indicates whether the fixture has built in LED or not and indicates compatibility of the fixture

with bulbs of the different energy classes.

C: If bulbs are included with the fixture, then this will indicate the energy class of the bulbs

provided.
